Bascom, Ohio- The Chieftains just finished up playing their non-league part of the schedule and have won each game for the third year in a row after a big 22-14 road win in Milan against a very tough Division 5 Edison team. Now it is time for league play as they will open it up to rival Calvert Senecas.

The Chieftains currently hold a five-game winning streak over the Senecas and blanked them in Tiffin last year 26-0 to win the SBC River for the fifth consecutive year.

Hopewell has been off to another strong start to the season as the defense looks to be a wrecking force against opponents. In three games, the Chieftains defense has held their opponents to only 168 rushing yards (avg. 56 yds/game) and one rushing touchdown while forcing five fumbles and three interceptions to have a +4-turnover advantage.

Mason Reinhart is leading the charge with 24 tackles while the Ewald's (Aiden and Joe) each have 3 sacks to their name. Aiden also has 20 tackles with Eli Benner right behind him at 18.

The offense has been pretty even for Hopewell as they have rushed for 397 yards and four touchdowns while passing for 374 yards and six touchdowns. Jacoby Ellis in three games has passed for 317 yards going 28-46 (61%), 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Kellen Frankart has rushed for 323 yards on 60 attempts and scoring three touchdowns. Brody Brickman has led the receivers with 204 yards on 14 receptions and four touchdowns while also forcing a fumble and two interceptions.

Connor Roush had a chance to catch up with Head Coach Brian Colatruglio on how the season has started and how he likes where his team is, as well as catching up with Juniors Kellen Frankart and Brody Brickman, here is what they had to say:

The Chieftains are looking to continue the season strong and make another deep playoff run.

Outside of finding me at games, I am a firefighter as well. With doing both, I'd say I'm living the dream! Thank you for reading and hopefully I can see you at a game!
