Game Preview: Calvert @ Mohawk
Thursday, August 21, 2025 – 7:00 p.m.
High school football kicks off in style this Thursday, and no opener packs the punch of Calvert at Mohawk. Warriors Field in Sycamore will glow under Friday‑night-caliber lights — even though it’s Day One of the season. This Division VII north Ohio rivalry has become a Thursday night tradition packed with atmosphere, pride, and intensity.
As always, Heart of Ohio Sports has the Tiffin area covered. We’re streaming the game, live on Facebook, YouTube, and heartofohiosports.com, the ONLY local media providing live coverage.
Coach: Mike Lento enters his 2nd season at Tiffin Calvert after finishing with a 7-5 overall record last year, and winning a playoff game at Calvert for the first time since 2018. The Senecas finished 3-3 in the SBC River, good for fourth place.
Key Players to Watch:
The Moyer twins, Connor and Cameron, solidify the offensive line with both earning honorable mention All‑District honors in 2024. Logan DeMoss is the offensive catalyst, racking up 498 receiving yards (32 receptions, 3 TDs) earning first-team All‑SBC on offense and second-team all-district as a defensive back. His 108 tackles, 4 interceptions, 2 sacks, fumble recovery and touchdown, plus nearly 700 return yards and two special teams scores, make him one heck of a swiss army knife type threat for the Senecas in 2025.
Calvert looks to strike fast and sustain pressure, anchored by senior leadership on both sides of the ball.
Connor Roush had a chance to sit down with Coach Lento ahead of their matchup with the Warriors this Thursday in Sycamore, here's what he had to say:
Coach: Eric Daniel, now in his 10th season, fresh off a 10-3 record and a regional semifinal run as 2024 N10 champions (6-1 in conference).
Key Players to Watch:
Defensive leader Owen Patrizi returns, coming off an All‑Ohio honorable mention with a staggering 136 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 2 INTs and a fumble recovery. The trenches are anchored by seniors Brady Coffman (offense honorable mention, all-District; defense 2nd team All‑N10) and Logan Hemminger (all‑N10 honorable mention, 46 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, FR). True utility man Andon Clouse returns too, with contributions on both sides—70 tackles, 6 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 FRs, plus punting and receiving work, he'll look to take over passing duties as he takes over for 3 year starter Ben Bogner.
Mohawk is battle-tested, built on grit, and riding high off a conference championship season. They know how to win late, and they’ve got the depth to prove it.
Connor Roush had a chance to catch up with Coach Daniel ahead of their week 1 matchup with Calvert, here's what he had to say:
| Matchup Aspect | Calvert Senecas | Mohawk Warriors |
|---|---|---|
| Coaching Edge | Lento’s playoff taste, steady rebuild | Daniel’s proven N10 success and consistency |
| Offensive Strength | DeMoss’s versatility and dynamic line play | All-around weapons, especially on defense |
| Defensive Edge | Defensive line, opportunistic secondary | Sound tackling at all levels, especially at LB |
| Atmosphere | Hostile road environment, electric crowd | N10 champs, hungry challengers |
This opens in the trenches, and it stays there. Calvert wants to set the tone early with discipline and force. But Mohawk’s defensive core, led by Patrizi, might just shut that down and flip the script. Offense could end up being about overcoming elite resistance—or big plays to break the wall.
Make your plans now. Whether you're cheering Seneca Blue or Warrior Red, or you just want bold football energy... you’ll get it this Thursday. Expect intensity, defensive fireworks, and something worthy of a Friday-night buzz... This THURSDAY at 7 only on Heart of Ohio Sports.
